Project Description

Northampton Nightline is an active listening service run by students for students, and supported by the University of Northampton Students’ Union. We are part of a nationwide Nightline Association, which have call Centre in 36 different Universities.  For more information please see their website http://nightline.ac.uk/

Our trained volunteers are happy to listen to anything you may wish to discuss. Nothing is too difficult or too trivial to be worth mentioning.

Anyone who is a student at the University of Northampton can contact us.  You can talk to us about anything: this could be homesickness, exam stress, housemate issues, relationship problems or other personal issues happening in your life. You don’t have to have a problem to speak to us: we also give out taxi numbers, details for other services, and are here just for a chat.

Northampton Nightline is an active listening service run by students for students, and supported by the Students’ Union at the University of Northampton. A Listener is trained to work the nightshift taking phone calls and providing our Instant Messaging service. Please see futher information About Us.

Northampton Nightline is non-judgemental, non-directive and non-advisory. We are here to talk things through so that you can find a way through your problems by making your own decisions that are right for you.

Nightline take confidentiality very seriously because we want you to feel safe while talking to us and tell us how you’re really feeling. We are a confidential and anonymous service, meaning we won’t share what you say, or any personal or contact details, with any other person or organisation (please see our Caller Policy for specific exceptions). Although we might ask your name as a natural question to ask in a conversation, you don’t have to tell us if you prefer not to. Our service is designed so that we don’t see your phone number when you contact us.

If you are interested in volunteering with us we would love to hear from you! We have two types of volunteer at Northampton Nightline – Listeners and ‘Friends of Nightline’. Listeners are specially training to work the nightshift taking phone calls, and providing the Instant Messaging service, while a Friend of Nightline is anyone who supports our service on campus, such as participating in awareness campaigns and fundraising. Please see Volunteering for further information.
There are lots of other great support services available when our lines at Northampton Nightline are closed, including the Samaritans – who are available 24/7 – on their free number 116 123. Please see Other Services for suggested links to other support services.

Please contact us if you have any other questions.
